RESEARCH AND COMMUNICATION FOR THE INDIGENOUS-LED WESTCOAST STEWARDSHIP CORRIDOR
At present, the steering committee is guiding a research and communications project that involves interviewing chiefs, councillors, lands staff, and stewards from nearly all of the 13 First Nations on the west coast of Vancouver Island to understand their visions for land management and stewardship.
This project endeavours to create an inventory of existing Indigenous-led stewardship and resource management activities and collaborations on the west coast of Vancouver Island (from T’Sou-ke Nation to the Clayoquot Biosphere Region) and the vision forward for a collaborative stewardship corridor. The project also aims at better understanding how the Indigenous-led Westcoast Stewardship Corridor vision aligns with visions of each nation for their territories, and how such a stewardship corridor can support stewardship work taking place across the landscape. Potential challenges and barriers to pursuing a stewardship corridor are also being documented.
