“We know we have disrupted the forest, the house of the wildlife, and we would like to be part of restoring ‘the house’. We need to be able to have all living beings living in a healthy way and we can learn from our ancestors how to restore the land. That is our birthright”.

~ Chief Gordon Planes November 9, 2021 Steering Committee meeting

The Indigenous-led Westcoast Stewardship Corridor (Stewardship Corridor) is an Indigenous-led initiative to restore healthy relationships with the land, waters, plants, animals, people and creator in order to mend what is now out of balance. This large-scale project provides a way to protect culturally and ecologically significant areas for current and future generations by reinstating connectivity from the mountains to the sea all along the West Coast of Vancouver Island (from T’Sou-ke Nation to the Clayoquot Biosphere Region).

The Stewardship Corridor initiative supports multiple First Nations to work collaboratively to restore and protect the health of the landscape in the region by sharing best management practices, identifying areas of collaboration and where they can be implemented for the greatest ecological continuity, growing their stewardship programs, and ensuring that economic development decisions align with regional environmental values.
